Custom shelving ideas for WFNZ’s radio hosts – Chris Kroeger and Chris McClain

Shelving brackets for March Madness

It’s only fitting that during March Madness while everyone is filling out NCAA basketball tournament brackets, we were installing Big Bear Brackets for the two local prime time sports radio hosts for WFNZ The Fan, Chris Kroeger and Chris McClain.

A blank canvas for a custom garage installation

IMG_3456Chris Kroeger’s garage was a brand new build, giving us a blank canvas with which to work.  Although it was newly constructed, the design of this garage presented its own challenges. The breaker box was located in an ideal spot for shelving, so we had to make alternate plans to work around the box. Taken from the Big Bear playbook, configuration two  was ideal for this spot due to the fact that it allows for additional hanging space.  For more information on Chris’ Big Bear experience, check out his testimonial.

Wooden shelves get a custom finish

tidy2 Chris opted for a “Canyon Brown” stain on his Big Bear Shelves, which offers a more refined finish for the lumber.  Don’t be fooled by this fancy stain – our brackets still provide the utmost strength and durability at a fraction of the cost.  Look closely and you will see that these shelves are holding: four deck chairs, three coolers, two kiddie bikes, and a partridge in a pear tree!  Practically speaking, we have tested the brackets to hold as much weight as garage wall studs can bear, and certify Big Bear Shelving up to 425 lbs.

Tidy 1With a plethora of hooks and attachments, we were able to give Chris his garage back. The shelves can be installed at a height at which the kids can easily access their bikes and toys (the height also makes for easy clean up!).  Chris’ testimonial illustrates just how beneficial Big Bear Shelving was to his family.

Big Bear helps “Fix it and Finish it” family reorganize their garage.

Antonio working with Big Bear2For many people, the sensation associated with opening up the garage door is one of dread. The garage is often a magnet for disorganized odds and ends, and can feel chaotic.  Big Bear Shelving recently had the opportunity to join  Fix It and Finish It, a daily television show that renovates a specific area of one home, every single day.  We joined their crew to help renovate and organize the Anderson’s Savannah, Georgia garage.

Garage storage ideas, that helped clean up the Andersons’ storage problems

The Andersons have three children, two girls and one boy, between the ages of 1 and 13.  The lack of space, combined with the myriad clutter accumulated by a five person family, made the Anderson’s garage a mess, and the perfect opportunity to highlight the utility and versatility of Big Bear Shelving.

The host of Fix it and Finish it, along with guest Scott Singeisen, Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at SCAD, utilized Big Bear Shelving to help get the Anderson’s possessions up off of the ground, and give back valuable space  wasted by ground clutter.

Metro ShelvingThe design called for a laundry table – 8’ long and 21” deep – for   The finished laundry table, shown below, was a durable, attractive asset to their garage.

Big Bear’s shelf bracket is used for a functioning laundry table and beauty area

Mrs. Anderson enjoyed washing and styling her children’s hair, which enabled her to spend time with them while doing so.  Below is the beauty desk that was made using a stained 2’ by 4’ pre-cut table top from the local hardware store and Big Bear brackets.  The lower shelf provides plenty of room to store their beauty products as well.  This was a huge hit!

Our floating shelves cleaned up that cluttered garage

SCAD designer utilizing Big Bear storageThe creation of the both the beauty and laundry area created ample space for the childrens’ play area. With the addition of some plastic containers, the Anderson’s belongings were packed up and stored in the utility/play end of the garage, giving back valuable floor space to the family.  At the surprise reveal, the Andersons were delighted with the new play space created.
